Hello All!

There are four days left to see our current show, “Nature Controls All”. If you haven’t checked it out yet this week is your last chance. If you can’t make it during our regular business hours we’ll be open Friday night for Art After Dark, June 3, 2011 from 6-9pm. Here are six of our favorite paintings currently on display.

This show has over 40 pieces in it so the paintings above are just a small sample of what is on display at the moment. The majority of the work has been created with spray paint and it’s quite impressive to see what these artists are able to create with a spray can.

We always encourage people to see artwork in person if they can. It’s a whole different experience as opposed to looking at photos of artwork online. If you’re in or around SLO and want to see this show before it’s over please come on by.

We’re open Tue.-Sat 12-6pm and will be open until 9pm this Friday for SLO’s “Art After Dark” event.

A quick recap of my night:
- Wrestle with kids. I totally won, by the way.
- Put kids to bed. It took about three attempts because kids hate going to bed.
- Draped a blanket over Coral after she fell asleep on the couch. As it turns out, making a baby in your tummy is exhausting stuff. Homegirl is always tired. Bless her little heart.
- Finished up these two little paintings that have been sitting undone for over a month. The colored portions were finished so tonight I finally added the black lines.

Hopefully, tomorrow I can make the time to resin coat these so I can sell them. Fun stuff!

For this show KOACH painted a series of 23 houses. Some were painted on postal stickers, others on torn book pages and others yet on wallpaper. There’s even one house painted over the top of a photo (a personal favorite). The series can be broken down into three different groups: small, medium, and large. This post focuses on the small group, all of which are paintings on postal stickers.

Nanny (my grandmother, for those of you not in the know) got a new little Shih Tzu puppy today and he is A-dorable. Say hello to Billy.

Looking at this now I’d say the photo is pretty close to Billy’s actual size.

I was lucky enough to see the progression of this painting from start to finish. The first time I visited the makeshift studio a few days before the opening of the show this painting didn’t exist at all. The wood panel had been constructed and the artist had a little sketch in his moleskin notebook.

The sketch was no bigger than a standard sized business card, but it was all SYDWOX needed to take it to the next level. The “next level”, of course, being an eight feet tall by four feet wide panel.
