Two New Four Inchers

“That’s what she said.” – My good friend Benn after seeing this post on the FB. Anyway…

Now that I’ve finished “The Puzzle Painting” I have been making some new work and finishing paintings that have been sitting around half way done for awhile. These two are totally brand new.

Both are 4″ x 4″ and are available for $40 each in my etsy shop.

Let’s Skank With Tim Armstrong

“Let’s Skank”
6″ x 6″ – mixed media on wood, signed on the back.
$65, plus shipping

This guy unintentionally ended up looking like Tim Armstrong to me, from Operation Ivy and Rancid fame, which should explain the title, “Let’s Skank”.

According to Urban Dicitonary:
“Skanking” – The bizarre, wild dance done to the music known as Ska. Not to be confused with a, “skank” skanking resembles running in place while flailing your arms. While popular at Ska shows, it is more acceptable at other mixed venues to simply join the mosh. Unskilled skankers are sometimes mistaken for seizure victims.

This is a one of a kind original painting on pine wood. The edges have been painted black and the surface has been coated with a thick layer of clear plastic resin. The resin coating provides a protective high gloss finish. It basically looks like a yummy piece of shiny candy.

Wire has been attached to the back so this is ready to hang right out of the package.

Happy Skankin’!

New Painting: Loose Cannon

I end up with a lot of wood scraps. A few years ago I started putting them to use by painting them. I called them “blockheads” because I would use the shape of the wood for the characters face. Here are a couple of examples.

Sugar Junkie

I don’t think any of these Blockheads were any bigger than 3″ x 6″. Coral suggested painting a BIG blockhead. She wants me to paint one that’s at least 2′ x 4′. I haven’t painted one that size yet, but last night I finished this one that is 14″ x 18″. Being bigger than 2″ – 3″ wide I was able to get a lot more detailed.

It was fun making a bigger Blockhead than what I normally do. Not sure if I’ll step it up to the 2′ x 4′ size, but it’s certainly a possibility.

Finally Made Some Haida Inspired Art

The Hunter

Back in October I wrote about my love for Haida Art. Soon after, I bought a round piece of wood from Home Depot with the intention of making my own Haida inspired painting. Since I’m now in my thirties it’s no secret that when it comes to finishing projects without a deadline I suck. The motivation just isn’t there the way it used to be. For that reason, it took me about eight months to finish my first Haida inspired painting.

The Hunter

As luck would have it, it only took about five minutes to sell the painting. This sort of thing doesn’t always happen for me, but a collector had seen the painting in its unfinished state when they visited the gallery in January. She called dibs on it, so as soon as I finished it I sent her an email with the finished painting before I posted it online to sell. The timing was just right. She bought it as a Father’s Day present for her brother. (Thanks, Inez!)

After it sold I posted it online (facebook, flickr, instagram, twitter, etc.) and received a lot of great feedback. A few people even asked to buy it. I had to let them know that it had sold, but that I’ll make some more in a similar style. And here they are.

the shaman the fighter

I painted these at the same time. While one had wet paint drying on it I would work on the other. This is pretty common among painters, so this back and forth went on until I finally finished. I’m happy to say it took a lot less time than eight months to finish these.

Drunk Kid

Drunk Kid

This is newest piece to add to my “mini painting” series. I still have to add a layer of resin to the top to give it that nice yummy candy look. If I can put my procrastination aside for a bit then I just might resin this thing later tonight. Oh yeah, this one is 3″ x 3.75″. Once the resin is done I’ll have this up in the etsy shop for $30.

As always, thanks for looking!

Sharpie Paint Pens Are Awesome

sharpie paint pens

If you use paint pens there is a good chance you have Deco-Colors. If that’s the case than you have probably ruined a few of your drawings because at some point all Deco Colors (at least the ones I’ve had) have a leaky explosion. Thankfully, Sharpie, the brand you know and love, has come out with these awesome paint pens. No messy explosions here and check out all those fun colors!

Sharpie Paint Pens are available for $3.49 each at
The Claassen Gallery.
